Chamonix resort information

Chamonix Mont Blanc is renowned as a world-class free-ride ski resort in France. It is nestled in the Chamonix Valley which comprises five individual resorts - Le Breven, Grands Montets, Les Houches, Le Tour/Balme, and La Flégère - each with their own character and boasts the breath-taking backdrop of the Chamonix Valley in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of South-eastern France.

Home to the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924, the Chamonix ski resort has gone from strength to strength, hosting over 5 million visitors annually. The winter season is typically between late November and May.

Chamomix offers 157 km of on-piste slopes as well as expansive off-piste ranging including the famous 20km Vallée Blanche off-piste run. The resort has elevations of over 3800m and can accommodate skiers of all aptitudes. An extensive network of cable cars and ski lifts criss-cross the valley affording good access to the slopes.

Chamonix is not only enjoyed by skiers and snowboarders but attracts visitors year-round, including hikers, climbers and general tourists.

Aside from the slopes there is lots to do and see in Chamonix. Explore Europe's second highest mountain range with The Mont Blanc National Park and Lac Blanc. Or ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car which takes you to a stunning elevation of 3842 feet where you can take the 'Step into The Void'. But be warned, this glass-floored chamber set over the edge of the valley is only for those who have no fear of heights!

A number of airports serve the region with transfers into the resorts by road, including Grenoble, Geneva, Turin, Lyon Saint Exupery (international) as well as Chambéry, which operates only in winter.
