Nestled in the Hautes-Alpes region of south-west France, the pretty village of Vallouise is the ideal base for skiers of all ages and abilities.
Located 1,110m above sea level, the area around Vallouise and Les Vigneaux is a popular choice with cross-country skiers, with more than 30km of groomed pistes weaving through the region's beautiful valleys.
There are plenty of nearby ski resorts to choose from. Possibly the area's best-known resort is Pelvoux-Vallouise. With elevations of between 1,250m and 2,300m in height, Pelvoux is the ideal choice for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, with 23km of slopes and nine different lifts.
Less than 15km south of Pelvoux is Nordic en Vallouise. As its name suggests, the resort specialises in Nordic winter sporting activities. As well as 35km of well-groomed pistes, there are many family-friendly options such as snow-shoe walking trails and a dog sled route. The resort is also popular with adrenaline junkies thanks to its luge track and dedicated biking routes. Nordic en Vallouise also has a ski school, making it a great resort for beginners.
For those who enjoy night skiing, Puy-Saint-Vincent, located just outside of Vallouise, has a lift servicing 1.5km of floodlit slopes.
Away from the pistes there are plenty of things to do in Vallouise. The village is located in the middle of Écrins National Park, which has many beautiful nature trails. There is also an ample choice of cosy bars and family-run restaurants, which provide a great space for some apres-ski wind-down time.
