Three of our favourite places to buy ski property in Canada

Stunning 6 bedroom home in Calgary

The mention of Canada conjures images of snowy forests, thoughts of the Rockies and swathes of vast, breathtakingly beautiful countryside. It's synonymous with clear mountain air and Olympic quality ski areas. We’re a little bit in love with this amazing country and thrilled to have some amazing ski property in Canada

One of the best things about buying a ski property in Canada is the variety of places to base yourself. Whether you want the flexibility of city life, the atmosphere of a former Olympic resort, or to immerse yourself in the total tranquility of somewhere like Lake Louise, you’ll find it in Canada.

Where can I buy ski property in Canada?

Canada has an impressive 294 ski resorts and offers all sorts of ways to get the adrenaline pumping from Mount Norquays’s infamous Lone Pine run and cross country skiing at Canmore as well as all manner of snowboarding and ski parks. For this article we’ve decided to focus on three places that offer a different slice of the Canadian ski experience.

Ski property in Calgary

Host to the 1988 winter Olympics, Calgary is a superb option for anyone seeking a base that offers the attractions of city life, with the benefit of some of Canada’s most beautiful, and challenging skiing in easy reach. The city is a year round destination, with a thriving arts scene, superb restaurants and a wealth of attractions like museums and galleries, as well as opportunities to explore the country's indigenous heritage.

There’s a good range of ski property here, from something like this two bedroom apartment, with stunning mountain views that’s ideal as an investment property, right through to this magnificent 6 bedroom estate in Aspen heights. It’s a fantastic holiday destination as well as being an eminently livable city.

Nakiska ski properties

If you prefer your skiing a little closer to your door, buying a ski property in Nakiska is a good choice. Built for the ‘88 winter olympics, Nakiska boasts 25km of runs, with a good mix of difficulty levels, including the Eagle Trail. Snowboarders will also feel right at home in Nakiska too - and it’s a resort that’s especially good for beginners.

Nakiska has the feel of a traditional ski resort, simple restaurants serving quality food, and a small number of bars. The resort has a good selection of off-mountain activities too, with things like ice fishing, an outdoor skate rink and numerous hiking trails. In terms of local community, Canmore is the nearest settlement, with a selection of museums, cafes and restaurants as well as a lively arts scene.

Property in Nakiska could be something like this one bedroom top floor apartment at Serenity ridge, in Canmore’s Three Sisters community or this luxurious 3 bedroom home, complete with a hot tub and view of the Rockies.

Ski property in Banff

Banff has huge appeal for both visitors and anyone seeking a more permanent base. A ski property in Banff gives easy access to Canada’s Big 3 - Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay and Lake Louise, each with an impressive mix of runs and some of the most beautiful scenery you could wish to see. Sunshine Village enjoys one of Canada's longest ski seasons, and Lake Louise is home to the beautiful turquoise lake, fed by the Victoria glacier.

Skiing aside, there are numerous ways to enjoy this corner of Canada. Hiking Tunnel Mountain, Minnewaka Lakeside or Sundance Canyon offers endless views of snow covered peaks and lungfuls of pure mountain air. For a more gentle way to nourish your body and mind, Banff has its own hot springs, as well as the opportunity to practise Shirin Yoku - the Japanese art of forest bathing.

Apres ski is varied in Banff with places like Waldhaus Pub, where you’ll find german style food and beer, alongside venues like Nourish, home to an array of veggie dishes and divine cocktails. There’s a couple of good spots for live music too, as well as Banff’s very own Park Distillery, where you’ll find spirits brewed from glacial waters.

Property wise, you could choose somewhere like this beautiful 6 bedroom house on Bow River with impeccable interiors and awe-inspiring views, or something like this two bedroom Banff townhouse set in the centre of Banff itself.
