With the Alpine World Ski Championships held there in 2023, Méribel and Courchevel offers a wide range of skiing styles. Over twelve days of competition, there will be 6 disciplines and 54 medals. But Méribel and Courchevel make fantastic destinations for amateur and competitive skiers alike. They are both part of the Les Trois Vallées, the world’s largest ski area, covering 600km. Les Trois Vallées are well connected, so if you choose to buy a property in Courchevel, Méribel will be easy to reach.

Méribel

Méribel is incredibly family-friendly, offering activities such as equestrian sports in the snow; igloo building; and fun slopes, such as a yeti park and a dragon trail. For enthusiastic and confident skiers, you can ski on the longest slope of Les Trois Vallées, with the start at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres. It is also home to the legendary Roc de Fer, where many a champion has demonstrated their prowess.

Courchevel

Courchevel has features that were built for Winter Olympics gone by. So, you really can ski like a professional there. For example, the ski jumping hill and Courchevel La Tania were both built for the Albertville Olympics in 1992. Whenever you want a little break from skiing, the Aquamotion centre boosts of outdoor pools, a diving pool, saunas, wild water rapids, and a hot tub.

Race downhill in Aspen, Colorado

2023 has exciting things on the horizon for Aspen, Colorado. This year, they will be hosting the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, scheduled for March. The racers will compete on the downhill course on Aspen Mountain

Additionally, work has begun on increasing the skiable terrain of Aspen’s flagship, Pandora Mountain. Once complete, there will be 20% more space for skiing on Pandora. It will include 1,220 vertical feet of groomed trails and glades, for intermediates to advanced skiers. Not only will this expansion make Aspen that more thrilling, it will also secure the area for skiing in climate-challenged seasons, as the expansion is set to be north-facing and of a high elevation.

Be like an Olympian: choose Milan or Cortina d’Ampezzo

In 2026, Italy will host the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Be ahead of the curve: base yourself in Milan or Cortina d’Ampezzo. There, you can train like an Olympian. And you will also have the best seats in the house when the time comes.

Ski mountaineering will be making its debut at the Olympic Winter Games. The sport resembles Alpine skiing, except that the athletes start the race by travelling up the mountain using their own power. The climb takes a considerable amount of time, including cross-country skiing and hiking when the snow gets deeper and rougher. Ski mountaineering has increased in popularity considerably, both on a professional and amateur level, with Italy being one of the leading nations for practicing the sport. Bormio, a town located in the Province of Sondrio, Lombardy region of the Alps in northern Italy, will host the ski mountaineering in the Winter Olympics. It is a destination noted not only for its skiing, but also for its hot springs that have been tapped to produce thermal baths.

Dubbed the Queen of the Dolomites, Cortina d’Ampezzo is famed for her extraordinary beauty. As the host of Italy’s first ever Winter Olympics in 1956, it quickly became the poster child for Italian skiing. For amateurs ready to try this new Olympic sport, mountain guides are professionals who will take you through ski mountaineering through the Dolomites.

So, where do you see yourself in 2023? On the world’s largest skiing terrain, Les Trois Vallées? Enjoying racing in Aspen? Or relishing in the beauty of the Dolomites? It is going to be a wonderful year for skiing!
