Only 90 minutes away from Grenoble Airport, located in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France residents will find the ski resort Alpe d'Huez. The resort spans over 250 kilometres of a variety of slopes and elevations between 1,125 and 3,330 meters there really is something suitable for every skiing ability.
The 3,330 high Pic Blanc Glacier is a highly popular attraction with its 16-kilometre-long slopes. As well as this, skiers can also take advantage of 70km of blue runs, 130km of intermediate slopes and 50km of expert slopes.
Connecting this resort there are 63 lifts which make transportation so much easier. There are a range of funiculars, aerial tramways, chairlifts and huge, two-stage Grandes Rousses gondolas.
As well as partaking in skiing and snowboarding, residents can also indulge in a range of other activities including ice driving, climbing, ice swimming and skating. The night skiing is very popular and takes place on a 1-kilometre floodlit slalom run which is free for people with a multi-day ticket, although separate tickets only cost 9 Euros, perfect news for those who find the skiing day a little too short.
There are a range of different restaurants and bars to explore around and near to the Resort. With delicious food at reasonable prices residents can eat at the famous ‘Pizzeria Pinocchio’ or for those who want to indulge in some more hearty cuisine, ‘Smithy’s Tavern’ provides some great British dishes.
