Champoluc is located in the Aosta region of North-West Italy and lies close to the Swiss border, which is set in a picturesque wooded valley with glacier views. Its traditional architecture gives the resort a rustic Italian feel.
Champoluc along with Gressoney and Alagna Valsesia form the Monterosa ski region, which lies at the foot of the second highest mountain in the Alps – Monte Rose. The area is known as Italy’s very own ‘Three Valleys', and Champoluc is the largest of these three resorts.
The elevation of the resort is 1,600m (5249ft), and with over 150km of slopes in the Monte Rosa ski area, Champoluc offers a variety of red runs for intermediate skiers and some exciting and varied off-piste terrain for experts. There are also some nursery slopes available for beginners.
Based at the Western side of the Monterosa area, Champoluc is accessible by Gondola or a funicular, which is 3km up the valley. A vast three-valley lift and piste network connects the Monterosa region. There are also no drag lifts in the Monterosa ski region, making it popular with snowboarders.
For those who want more variety, there are opportunities to ski by moonlight. Champoluc also has eight snowshoeing trails for those who want to explore the valley in their own time by foot.
Being a small traditional village, Champoluc is free of any big commercial shops, but this only adds to its charm, and there are plenty of warm bustling restaurants serving delicious food and glühwein, locally produced cold meats stews and cheeses.
