Kolašin is a peaceful mountain town in the northeast of Montenegro. It has a population of about 3000 people and is well-known in the winter because it is close to the Kolašin 1450 and 1600 ski slopes. Skiing and snowboarding are available on 45 kilometres of slopes. The winter sports area ranges in elevation from 1,420 to 2,072 metres and there are a total of 7 ski lifts.
In 2019, the Kolašin 1600 ski resort was developed adjacent to Kolašin 1450 with a new 6-person chairlift and slopes connecting the two regions. The ski resort has now risen to about 2,000 metres in elevation, which helps to ensure constant snow conditions. Kolašin has gained in popularity tremendously in recent years, as have the skiing and snowboarding facilities. It is presently Montenegro's biggest and most advanced winter sports resort. The majority of ski and snowboard slopes are rated easy to intermediate. Only a few really challenging slopes lure professionals to the ski resorts of Kolašin 1450 and Kolašin 1600.
Additional lifts and a link to Jelovica are on the way. Other mergers with Cmiljača and Žarski are planned for the coming years. This will ultimately result in Southeast Europe's largest ski resort, with up to 250 kilometres of slopes.
In the summer Kolašin is a laid-back mountain community. While there isn't much to do or see in town, it's an excellent spot to spend a night or two while seeing Montenegro's natural beauty and traditional culture. The scenery surrounding Kolašin is stunning , and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors here.
