The Gassan Glacier ski resort is in Yamagata Prefecture, Honshu, Tōhoku, Japan and is located on the southern slopes of Mount Ubagatake. It is a favourite ski resort for many with a wide range of exciting and activities to explore and is only 60 minutes away from the nearest airport. This is perfect for families and beginners as it has a record amount of snowfall and doesn’t have many trees.
In totality, the resort has 10 kilometres of slopes and elevations between 1,235 and 1,670 meters. The resort also has 3 ski lifts which makes travelling around the resort and mountains so much easier. Even though the resorts courses are predominantly classified as easy and intermediate, there are also plenty of opportunities for more advanced skiers to experience exhilaration on the slopes. 5 kilometres of easy slopes are ideal if you are just beginning to learn how to ski, whilst the 5 kilometres of intermediate slopes are perfect for pushing boundaries and building on confidence.
A trip to the Gassan Glacier ski resort is not complete without a visit to the top of the mountain, the shrine is worth the hike to see the breath-taking views this superb resort has to offer. There are also opportunities to experience guided walking tours to see the several volcanic rocks and ponds.
