Nestled in the mountains of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, the Kiroro ski resort sits at elevations between 570m and 1,180m.
There is a total of 30km of slopes available at Kiroro, with a good mix of trails to challenge skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. The resort has eight chair lifts, as well as a gondola lift, to transport people to the different slopes. Around 3km of the slopes at Kiroro are floodlit, making it an ideal resort for those who enjoy night skiing.
Kiroro is also great for learners of all ages. There are two ski schools - one specifically for children, and another offering both ski and snowboarding courses.
There are many other fun winter activities on offer at Kiroro, including tubing and sledding. Family-friendly snow rafting rides are also available.
Although Kiroro already has plenty to keep you busy, there are lots of other nearby resorts to visit if you're looking to try something different. Hokkaido has a total of 394km of slopes, spread over more than 30 different ski resorts. One of the nearest to Kiroro is Sapporo Kokusai, which has 11km of slopes, serviced by five ski lifts.
For hungry skiers looking for a place to eat, the best option is to head to the resort hotels around Akaigawa-mura. Popular restaurants include Rivierouge at the Sheraton Hokkaido Kiroro Resort, which offers a wide menu of both Japanese and international dishes. For those who prefer European dishes, Alpine Brasserie at The Kiroro Tribute Portfolio Hotel is a good choice.
