The fortified house of Unha, also known as the Brastet Castle, was built in 1580 by Mateu Blanc.
At the end of the sixteenth century, the Catholic King Philip II ordered the construction of fortified houses at the entrances of the villages of the Aran Valley closest to the border line with France for the defense of the invasions of the French Huguenots. One of them was the Brastet Castle and its structure has a well-defined purpose. The two stone towers are strategically placed. One of them facing North, where the main ports were located where the invaders could reach, and the second focusing on the Valley if they entered through the South face.
We can say, without a doubt, that Brastet Castle is a unique example in the Aran Valley.
The farm, in addition to the castle with an area of 500 m2, consists of a large plot of 5000 m2 surrounded by oaks and flowers, a fountain, an orchard and a rustic house of 135 m2. The Fortified House of Unha has a total of 4 floors where are distributed a spacious living room with fireplace, a large kitchen with integrated pantry, a library, 9 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a loft.
It should be noted that the walls are one meter thick, the windows of the Renaissance period, the furniture consists of original pieces of the sixteenth century and reproductions of the period made of solid wood.
This unique jewel is located at the entrance to the village of Unha, just 4 km from the ski resort of Baqueira / Beret.
Also in this charming village we can find the church of Santa Eulalia, an excellent example of the Romanesque of the twelfth century that contains some paintings from the same period.
