For the winter sports fanatic, there are endless possibilities at Salzstiegl – Hirschegg ski resort, given you can ski, snowboard, freeride, go cross-country, climb, hike and toboggan. Located in the District of Voitsberg in Austria, the resort is just 55 minutes away from Graz airport, making it ideal for those wanting to get on the slopes as soon as possible.
At an elevation between 1,320m and 1,710m and 12km of slopes to choose from, skiers and snowboarders have more than enough terrain to keep them happy as they explore the area. Using 7 ski lifts to navigate the slopes, guests can get to their chosen slope with ease, and given it is a smaller resort, there is a much lower chance of queues. Conveniently, there is also a shuttle bus to take beginners to the easy runs. This makes it ideal for families and novice skiers, who have 6km of easy slopes to get to grips with, before moving onto 4km of intermediate and 2km of difficult runs.
Alongside rustic huts located up and down the slopes, ideal for a quick bite to eat or refreshment, there is also the Erlebnisgasthof Moasterhaus or Kilian Stuba for local delicacies, and a great café bar called S'Hirschegg that’s worth a look.
