If you are wanting a ski holiday that is specifically suited towards families then the ski resort Ramsau am Dachstein – Rittisberg is the one for you! It is located in Schladming-Dachstein(Austria, Styria (Steiermark), Liezen). The ski resort itself has been transformed into a children’s winter wonderland full of characters and caves to explore and best of all it’s only a short 1-hour transfer away from Salzburg airport meaning it's not too far to travel with excited children in the car.
Even though the resort is dedicated to children, there is still something for the big kids to enjoy with the diverse range of slopes to explore. There is a total of 25 kilometres of slopes set between elevations of 1,035 and 1,636 metres. For beginners there are 14 kilometres of easy slopes, including ski school and the crack the Kali code where the children have to find hidden letters around the slopes. For the more advanced skiers there are 10 kilometres of intermediate slopes and for the experts there is 1 kilometre of difficult runs which consists of the 1 black run called the Rittisberg Nordabfahrt the northern slope which is 1 kilometre in length.
With it being a resort suited for children there is so much more to do than ski, with adventure playgrounds, activity spots and even the groomed toboggan run from the Rittisberg, which is floodlit several times a week, is one of the nicest and longest natural toboggan runs in the entire region.
When it comes to dining and après-ski there is so much choice available with 12 Mountain restaurants & Ski huts. Keeping with the children’s interests the Brandalm is a popular choice as they serve great food as well as letting the children look at and stroke the pet rabbits here. For a more grown up perspective then the Walcheralm is a great choice as it offers great views of the southern face of the Dachstein.
