Alyeska Resort is a ski resort located in the popular area of Girdwood, Alaska and is the largest resort in the state. Alyeska catches the attention of winter sports enthusiasts during ski season and lives up to its reputation of ‘steep and deep’ with an average of 650” annual snowfall and the longest continuous double black diamond ski run in North America. With elevations between 70 and 840 meters and 62 kilometres of slopes, this fantastic resort is ideal for experts, beginners and families. With 14 kilometres of ‘easy’ slopes, 31 kilometres of ‘intermediate’ slopes and 17km of ‘expert’ slopes, the more confident skiers can take advantage of the wide open bowls and long top-to-bottom runs whilst the tree-lined groomed runs are ideal for beginners.
Night skiing is an added attraction for this resort with up to 2 kilometres of floodlit slopes open until 21:00, perfect for those who find the skiing day just that bit too short. But the fun doesn’t stop at the slopes, visitors and residents can also take the Aerial tram to experience breath-taking panoramic views of the lake and hanging glacier. Hikers and walking enthusiasts can indulge in their passion on the North Face trail through the alpine backdrop.
There are many other amenities at Alyeska Resort and the dining is second to none. Mountaintop dining at the ‘Seven Glaciers’ award-winning restaurant is a perfect choice for exquisite Alaskan dishes. Or for a lighter bite, why not try ‘Bore Tide Deli and Bar’ for soups, sandwiches and snacks with views of Turnagain Arm and the hanging glaciers.
