For a winter sports holiday that is aimed more towards families and beginner skiers, there are endless possibilities at Kirchdorf ski resort, given you can ski, snowboard, freeride, climb, hike and toboggan. Located in the Holiday Region St. Johann in Tirol, Austria the resort is just a 1 hour transfer away from Salzburg Airport, making it ideal for those wanting to get on the slopes as soon as possible.
At an elevation between 640 and 780 metres and with 5 kilometres of slopes to choose from, skiers and snowboarders have more than enough terrain to keep them happy as they explore the area. Guests can use the 3 ski lifts to navigate the slopes and get to their chosen slope with ease, and given it is a smaller resort, there is a much lower chance of queues. Conveniently, there is also a shuttle bus to take beginners to the easy runs. This makes it ideal for families and novice skiers, who have 3 kilometres of easy slopes to get to grips with, before moving onto 2 kilometres of intermediate runs. As previously mentioned the resort has more of a focus on children, families and beginners and even has an entire section of the mountain reserved for children which includes the ski school, play area and lovely little indian tepees.
Alongside rustic huts located up and down the slopes, ideal for a quick bite to eat or refreshment, there is also the Restaurant im Hotel Alphof located at the base station of the tow lift and if it’s apres ski you are after then head over to the Panoramaalm TopBar at the mountain station of the chairlift which has live music and often holds special ski parties.
