Located in the Salzburger Sportwelt of Salzburg, Austria, is the Ski Resort Radstadt/Altenmarkt. With over 17 kilometres of slopes and elevations between 858 and 1,571 metres, this resort is ideal for those who are new to the winter sports scene. There are 9.2 kilometres of ‘easy’ blue which slopes provide hours of pleasant gliding for novices and younger children, with the easiest of the runs leading down to both valley stations and there are also three j-bar lifts in the resort for beginners. The 7.2 kilometres of ‘intermediate’ red slopes provide opportunities for more advanced skiers to challenge themselves on more extreme and steeper slopes. The Expert skiers can explore the deeper snow in the lower areas of the resort on 0.6 kilometres of slopes. There is a total of 8 lifts for transportation around the resort, the chairlift takes you up to the starting point and then it's on your marks, get set, go: starting off downhill, through elevated, steep twists and turns.
Tobogganing is particularly popular with high-speed descents to the valley on the 700-metre run. For something a little less extreme, those that enjoy hiking to hike can experience the breath-taking panoramic views offered on the adventure paths.
The Sportalm is a cosy alpine lodge and is the highest restaurant in the resort. It serves delicious food and its Germknoedel (dumplings with plum jam filling) are not to be missed as they are a favourite delicacy amongst locals.
