The astonishingly large ski resort of Schladming is actually 4 mountain peaks rolled into one, which includes Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm. The peaks surround the main village and offer 122.7km of wonderfully varied slopes to visitors and residents. In total there are 44 ski lifts taking skiers and snowboarders to elevations between 745m and 2,015m. All in all, this is truly an Austrian ski resort that has everything you could ever need on your skiing holiday.
Astounding views are combined with award-winning slopes that have been featured in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in 2013. These accolades have meant the resort has been upgraded to ensure new lifts that can take guests very quickly to wherever they need to be. In total there are 46.1km of easy slopes, 68.3km of intermediate slopes and 8.3km of difficult slopes; very much favouring fairly able skiers. One of the best areas has to be the Reiteralm, which has a wonderful run down into Preuneggtal. For wider, more pleasant slopes, try Lärchkogel slope no.5 and Mitterhaus.
Alternatively, there is also shops to browse around in the main town of Schladming, a museum, a pool and an ice rink which is perfect for a more relaxing day. For those seeking a little more adventure there’s a 7km floodlit toboggan run.
With such a diverse area to choose from, visitors and restaurants can easily find mountain restaurants, quaint village eateries and après ski bars in abundance throughout the resort. Try Krummholzhütte or Schoarlhütte for mountain hut table service, or at the other end of the scale try the nightclubs Cult or Angels for late-night party.
