Located in the little Austrian market town of Kötschach-Mauthen, Vorhegg is one of five ski resorts in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region of the Alps, close to the Italian border.
The small, family-friendly ski resort has 7km of slopes, on elevations between 710m and 1,300m in height. All of the runs at Vorhegg are suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, and there is a ski school on site. There are two T-bar lifts and a rope lift to transport guests. There is also a chair lift servicing the higher slopes.
For those looking for more of a challenge, there is the nearby resort of Nassfeld-Hermagor, which is much larger with 110km of slopes available, 11km of which are dedicated runs for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Nassfeld-Hermagor also boasts one of the longest night-skiing runs in the Alps, with a 2.2km floodlit trail that descends 409m into the valley.
Other smaller ski resorts near Vorhegg include Weissbriach, Griminitzen and Hrastlift, which are all popular with beginners.
At the base of Vorhegg, the small town of Kötschach-Mauthen has plenty of activities and attractions to keep visitors occupied when they are not on the slopes. There's a mountain warfare museum, an indoor swimming centre and a supermarket. There are also plenty of dining options, such as Bergrestaurant Oedenhuette, which serves traditional Austrian fare. There are also plenty of Italian eateries and pizzerias to choose from.
Kötschach-Mauthen also has a railway station, with trains connecting to major cities like Vienna and Salzburg.
